HPV vaccination for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities

It's important that our young ones get the HPV vaccine to make sure they're protected from HPV related cancers and diseases later in life.

On this page you will find information and resources that you can use to help protect Mob from HPV.

About the HPV vaccine

The HPV vaccine protects against nine types of HPV that cause almost all cases of cervical cancer, other HPV-related cancers and genital warts.

The HPV vaccine is provided for free in secondary schools to young ones aged 12 to 13. It is recommended and free to all people, of all genders, aged 12 to 25.

If you or your child has missed out on getting the HPV vaccine, you can catch up for free until the age of 26 at your local Aboriginal Health Service, local council, a doctor, or some pharmacies.

How to protect Mob from HPV

Here's how you can help keep Mob HPV free:

  • Talk to your Community about the importance of the HPV vaccine.
  • If your young ones are getting the vaccine at school, sign and return the consent form.
  • Missed the vaccine at school? Catch up now. You can get a free catch-up dose until you’re 26 at an Aboriginal Health Service, doctor, local council or some pharmacies.
  • Work in an Aboriginal Health Service or offer immunisation services? Download the resources below and promote HPV vaccination to your community.
